General Information

Cedar Fort is a small, patriotic town that is proud of its country atmosphere. Located in the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains in the northwest part of the county, many of the city's residents work for the Tooele Army Depot.

With a median age of 29.4, Cedar Fort has the oldest population in the county. The average household size, 3.69, is slightly over the county average of 3.59. Between 1998 and 2000, Cedar Fort's population jumped from 254 to 341, signaling the end of the stagnant growth the city has seen during the past two decades.

Origin of City's name

Cedar Fort was not incorporated as a municipality until 1965. The name Cedar Fort was taken from Cedar Valley and the abundance of cedar trees in the area.

Did You Know?

On January 5, 1956, the Utah Legislature incorporated the area around Cedar Fort as Cedar Valley County with Cedar Fort as the county seat. The county was later absorbed into Utah County.
