General Information

Located in the foothills of Mt. Timpanogas, Cedar Hills is one of the fastest growing communities in Utah County. The town more than tripled its population in the last decade, growing from 769 to 3,094 residents. And since the census was taken, Cedar Hills continues to grow. A former mayor says that Cedar Hills is so appealing because of its small-town, home-grown atmosphere. Another reason it may be so appealing is that its residents have easy access to recreation spots in American Fork Canyon via U-146 and U-92.

Cedar Hills has the youngest median age, 18.5, in Utah County. This may be attributed to the fact that residents have large families. The median household size is 4.78, the third largest in the county.

Origin of City's Name

Cedar Hills derived its name from the abundance of cedar-covered hills in the area

Date of Incorporation: October 1977

Did You Know?

From April 1994 to October 1996, city leaders placed a moratorium on building permits to allow the city time to recuperate from the building boom of the early 1990's. During this time the city expanded its water and sewer systems and developed a vision for the future of the city. Cedar Hills now has plans for development of a parks and trails system and a pedestrian-friendly commercial center. To make up for the loss of orchards from development, the city hopes to replace lost trees by planting others in parks and encouraging residents to plant trees in their yards.
