Climate
Utah County is nestled near the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, so the altitude is approximately 4,500 feet above sea level. Residents enjoy a four-season climate with low humidity. The summer daytime temperatures generally stay in the upper 80's and 90's (fahrenheit), occassionally reaching up to 100 degrees. The air cools rapidly after sunset, leaving the evenings refreshing and comfortable. In the winter, daytime temperatures generally stay in the 20's to 30's and occasionally dip into the teens and below. The average annual precipitation is approximately 12 inches.
Cultural Amenities
The communities in Utah County offer an abundance of community-based, professional entertainment activities and museums that one would expect to find in a larger urban area. Art enthusiasts will find pleasure visiting our numerous art and historical museums, including the Springville Museum of Art, one of the largest art museums west of the Mississippi, which houses some of the finest collections of American Art in the nation. Theatre lovers will enjoy visiting the Sundance Resort with its wonderful outdoor summer theatre program; the Payson Community Theater - which the Utah Holiday Magazine proclaimed as the best live theatre is the State; and many other community and private theatres. And the patriotic will enjoy Provo's Freedom Festival, reputed to be the largest single Independence Day Celebration in the Country.
Recreation
The great outdoors is the center of most of the recreational activities in the area. Utah County's ideal location allows residents and visitors to enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, and rock climbing in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains without traveling far distances. Sports also play an important role in recreational activities. Brigham Young University, a member of the Mountain West Conference and frequent NCAA contender and national champion in many events, has brought popular college sports to the area. Provo Peaks Ice Arena was a hockey venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, and in 2002 we began hosting the Ironman Triathlon.
Low Crime Rate
Utah County is one of the safest places to live in the nation and boasts the second lowest violent crime rate in the Country, according to the FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report.
