Salem is a small, rural, farming community of nearly 5 square miles located in the south portion of Utah county between Spanish Fork and Payson. Its residents cherish the wide open fields and country air.

Origin of City's Name

Originally called Pond Town because of a pond created when early settlers dammed a stream, the name was later changed by Lyman Curtis to "Salem" which means "City of Peace."

Did you Know?

The "Dream Mine" of John Hyrum Koyle is a well- known story of the town. Koyle dreamed of mining rich ore on Salem's hillside. After selling shares in a venture, he dug a deep shaft. Unfortunately, he never found any ore.
